What is Zen Thai Shiatsu?

Zen Thai Shiatsu is a deeply calming, whole-body therapy that blends elements of traditional Thai massage, Japanese Shiatsu, mindful movement and breath-led pressure.

Sessions are slow, grounded and restorative. Rather than working on the body, this therapy works with it — supporting your body’s natural ability to soften, regulate and heal.

Zen Thai Shiatsu is performed fully clothed on a comfortable mat, using gentle rhythmic pressure, stretching, rocking and assisted movement. Many clients describe it as a combination of massage, meditation and nervous system reset.

This therapy works along the body’s energy pathways (meridians), while also supporting muscles, joints, fascia and the nervous system.

What happens in a session?

Your session takes place on a mat on the floor, with you fully clothed in comfortable, stretchy clothing.

Using my hands, thumbs, forearms and gentle body weight, I apply slow, rhythmic pressure along energy lines, combined with supported stretches, rocking and movement.

The pace is unhurried. The intention is safety, presence and deep listening — allowing your body to release without being pushed or forced.

Many clients enter a deeply relaxed, almost dream-like state during sessions.

What should I wear?
You’ll remain fully clothed. Comfortable, stretchy clothing is best (yoga pants, leggings, track pants and a soft top). Jeans, belts and restrictive clothing aren’t ideal.

Is Zen Thai Shiatsu painful?
No. This is a gentle, mindful therapy. Pressure is slow and responsive, not forceful, and always adapted to your comfort.

Is this like a deep tissue massage?
Not at all. Zen Thai Shiatsu focuses on calming the nervous system, supporting energy flow and encouraging natural release — not pushing through pain.

Do I need to be flexible?
No. All movements and stretches are fully supported and adapted to your body. You simply relax and receive.

What if I struggle to relax?
That’s completely okay. This therapy is especially supportive for people who find it hard to switch off. There’s nothing you need to “do”.

How will I feel afterwards?
Most people feel deeply calm and grounded. Some experience emotional release or fatigue as the nervous system unwinds. Rest and hydration are recommended.

Is Zen Thai Shiatsu suitable for everyone?
It’s very gentle, however if you are pregnant, have recent injuries, or have specific medical conditions, please let me know so we can ensure the session is appropriate for you.
